It’s likely impossible to overlook the hassles and unjust; inhabitants are exposed before and especially when they share governments takings. Rather it’s absolutely insane. That's why there are quite a few privileges which taxpayers can enjoy and not even IRS can rob them away from taxpayers.


Taxpayers’ Rights:

Right to Get Information: This refers to the right to get taxpayers’ rights protected, getting informed about them, and legal procedures and assistance in understanding those procedures.

Privacy of Information:

This is to give assurance of secrecy of any kind of information submitted and/or shared with IRS. Taxpayers do have right to be acquainted with the reasons for which the information is demanded and also the consequences of not being attentive to it.

Payment of Tax to the degree of Liability Only: By any means, taxpayer can’t be forced to pay more than what he owes.

Right of Representation:

To many, the most important privilege is to be free to decide on representation before IRS. Taxpayers can themselves represent and/or take on an attorney or CPA for an interview.

Right to Withhold Acknowledgments:

Taxpayers have fundamental right to keep acknowledged copies of correspondence they had with IRS. With prior consent they can make sound recordings of interviews, appeals, and collection personnel.

• Right to Counter:

For any conflict in respect of tax liability or actions of IRS taxpayers have right to counter and ask Appeal Office to review the case. They even can choose to go with judicial review.

Penalty and Interest Abatement:

Taxpayers can breathe a sigh of relief from charge of interest and penalties and that is on word of court. When taxpayer is found reasonably attentive and in good faith but charged with interest and/or penalty as a consequence of deceptive or false instructions given by IRS personnel, such interest and penalties can be put aside.

Right to get Mannerly Treatment:

Taxpayers do have right to get treated in a courteous way by IRS personnel. In dearth of mannerly service they can bring this to notice of supervisor.

Assistance from Taxpayer Advocate:

In failure to resolve dilemma with IRS, taxpayers can obtain support from local Taxpayer Advocate. In the midst of such privileges IRS endeavors to assure taxpayers of professional service, gives voice to taxpayers to put across any unjust and facilitate them to counter the same.
